Brain #1
This was the piece that started it all. Made entirely from crocheted and hand-stitched plastic bags, it was my first experiment combining recycled materials with hyperbolic geometry. What emerged—a soft, brain-like form—immediately resonated. It embodied contradiction: synthetic yet organic, discarded yet intricate, chaotic yet carefully made. In its folds, I saw the overwhelming complexity of thought, the tension between external perception and internal experience, and the quiet persistence of what refuses to be thrown away.
This brain became a catalyst, revealing the emotional and symbolic power of both the material and the form. It opened up questions I’m still exploring: What do we devalue, and why? How do we care for things—ourselves, others, our world—once they’ve been marked as “too much” or “not enough”? In many ways, every piece since has grown from this one.
