Plastic Planet

"Plastic Planet" reflects on how the overwhelming presence of material excess—particularly plastic—dulls our emotional connection to the Earth and to one another. Built from the very substance that clogs ecosystems and clouds landscapes, the piece envelops itself in density and visual noise, mirroring the way "stuff" accumulates in both our environments and our lives.

Using the soft, labor-intensive gestures of crochet and knotting, "Plastic Planet" draws attention to the disconnect between care and consumption. What might have once evoked intimacy or communion—craft, nature, community—now becomes buried beneath layers of synthetic waste. The work’s form feels planetary, spherical or encased, but also smothered—a world both held and suffocated.

This piece asks: how can we feel clearly—about the planet, about each other—when so much stands between us? And yet, through the act of making, through reclaiming what was discarded, "Plastic Planet" becomes a gesture of reconnection.
